BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is a recognised environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, which was first launched in 1990. BREEAM is one of the most commonly used standards for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and is a widely recognised measure of a building’s environmental performance. A BREEAM assessment evaluates a building’s specification, design, construction and use, such as energy and water use, the internal environment (health and wellbeing), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes.
